The truth is getting harder than ever to discover. People cannot tell apart social media messages written by artificial intelligence and those written by human beings, a study finds. Worse, people are more likely to understand and believe AI social media content, whether or not it is true, compared with its human equivalent. The findings indicate an “infodemic.” An infodemic is an epidemic-like circulation of fake news about topics like climate change.
